From Miami Herold:
Federal investigators announced this week the arrests of five people linked to a dating service that allegedly provided prostitutes across the country.
The feds say that Miami Companions was among the largest prostitution rings in the United States.
The company rented exotic beach houses, where clients exchanged money for sex, and sent women to Boston, Chicago and the Detroit area — until Michigan authorities began making arrests, investigators said.
Those arrests culminated Wednesday when indictments for five people connected to the business were announced.
The indictments included the accused owners — Gregory Carr, aka Paul Cutlass, 43, and Laurie Carr, 39.
The Carrs, Michelle Matarazzo, 36, and Nayubet Loani Swaso, 24, were arrested on a six-count indictment charging conspiracy to coerce and entice prostitution, coercion and enticement of prostitution, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Fabiola Contreras, 33, was arrested on a complaint alleging conspiracy to commit money laundering
Wednesday, the company’s website described itself as “the most prestigious dating service of its kind!” But it doesn’t condone or provide illicit services, the opening page said.
The page went on to say that, “All monies exchanged for services are for time and companionship only.”
Not so, said federal authorities.
Here’s how investigators described the work of Miami Companions:
The Carrs owned the operation.
Matarazzo managed the office. Her duties included coordinating travel for the women and setting appointments with johns.
Swaso managed the overseas call center they used at one point to coordinate travel of the women and book appointments. Employees at call centers in Panama and Costa Rica were paid for with millions of dollars moved into overseas bank accounts, authorities said.
As for the proceeds, those went into bank accounts owned by Contreras. Overall, investigators believe the Carrs laundered more than $4 million in company proceeds in multiple bank accounts, all under different names.
The company began sending prostitutes to the Detroit area in the early 2000s, authorities said, and continued to do business there until March 2009, when several arrests were made by the FBI and Southeast Michigan Crimes Against Children task force.
The investigation continued, leading up to Wednesday’s arrests.
Four of the five were arrested in South Florida, authorities said. A fifth was arrested in Pittsburgh.
The five are scheduled to appear in federal court in Michigan on Aug. 11.
The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Michigan. The FBI, IRS and Immigration and Customs Enforcement all are part of the investigation.
I never really followed the career of Savannah but decided to look into her life and circumstances due to the very sad anniversary.
Savannah was born in Texas but raised in southern California. Before her time in the porn industry she had worked in NYC strip club SCORES. She attended the AVN awards where she approached an executive from Vivid. From this, a porn career began.
Although one of the more successful stars of her time, she earned a reputation of being a weak performer and difficult to work with. After she was dropped by Vivid, she had difficulty finding work. She was often told she was too old for work in spite of being under 25 years old. (this still happens in porn today) Because of this she makes the decision to shoot a gangbang for John T. Bone called “Starbangers”
She was romantically involved with celebs such as Greg Alman, Pauly Shore, (while underage) and lastly, Guns N Roses guitarist, Slash who had left Savannah after media saw them intimately in public. After Slash returned to and married a previous girlfriend, Savannah fell into a major depression.
After a night of parting with a friend shortly thereafter Savannah lost control of her vehicle on her way back to her Hollywood Hills home. injuries were sustained to her face that she felt would have destroyed her career. She asked her friend to walk her dog and when he returned she was covered with blood. Savannah had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police investigation said the suicide was a result of depression, personal, and financial difficulties.
It blows my mind what people think they can get away with.
NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (CBS/AP) Amanda Logue was a married, bleach-blond Georgia woman who dabbled in prostitution and starred in several X-rated videos under the name “Sunny Dae.” Jason Andrews was a bisexual Chicago DJ with a British accent, whose chiseled jaw and good looks landed him roles in countless gay porn videos.
Together, according to Florida detectives, they stabbed and bludgeoned 41-year-old tattoo shop owner Dennis “Scooter” Abrahamsen to death with a sledgehammer.
Nearly two months after Abrahamsen was found dead in his Tampa-area home, Logue and Andrews were indicted by a grand jury on first-degree murder charges. Logue is being held without bail at a Florida jail and Andrews was arrested Thursday in Tennessee.
Andrews was arrested by U.S. Marshals and the Chattanooga Police Department after working for several weeks as a manager at the Chattanooga Billiard Club, an upscale pool hall and cigar lounge. He is jailed in Tennessee until he can be extradited to Florida.
Police in Florida say the pair killed Abrahamsen in the early morning of May 15 and swiped $6,000 cash, his credit cards and a video camera. Abrahamsen had hired Logue to work at a sex party at his house, and police said that’s when Logue and Andrews set him up. They traded dozens of text messages about their homicidal plan, police said.
According to an affidavit, Logue would later deny that she had anything to do with the killing and claim Andrews was the one who bludgeoned Abrahamsen.
“Logue told (police) that Andrews grabbed the back of her hair then twisted her arm behind her back. Andrews forced her to view Abrahamsen’s crushed skull and told her that’s what would happen to her if she told anyone.”
Logue and Andrews met on the set of a porn video late last year and fell in love – even though Logue was married to a man in Georgia, authorities and friends said.
The 27-year-old Andrews was known in Chicago as DJ Veritas, and his Facebook and MySpace pages feature several video clips of him playing techno music in large clubs.
The 28-year-old Logue seemed like a decent person, said Kristen Cameron, a Florida-based model who met her last year. According to several profiles on modeling websites, Logue did bikini and fetish modeling.
Dealing with my issues that I’ll talk about at a later date. I don’t get to use the Internet much these days. I’m working on new entrys that I will release as soon as I can.
I am in disbelief and hurt in how volatile things have become. I valued you more than anyone I had known in about 10 years. I am very selective in who I alow to become close to me. I trusted you. I feel violated.
Yes I did a few things wrong , but this was after tolerating things that I shouldn’t tolerate out of anyone for months. I don’t want to go into it. You know what those things are. I don’t understand why you felt it was okay to single me out for that type of treatment. If you treated everyone that way like you said you did, they would not stick around year after year, unless they had very low self-esteem OR were using you for what you can provide for them, ie: drinks, hookups, entertainment industry work, celebs, money, etc. I actually cared about you, not those things.
The nightclub scene is fake. It’s out of style. I heard enough name dropping in my LA years for 3 peoples lifetimes. You are such a good, caring person when you are away from this toxic scene.
I will be back in 57 days. One of two things will happen with me during this time. Things may cool down and we may be friends, or I will change so much during this time that I may move beyond having club people in my life.
You were right. Thank you so much for allowing your mother to help me during this agonizing period. I would not be where I am right now if didn’t happen.
I love you. You are an adult. Please do the right thing.
